Diary, 1852-1859.

Johnson's diary (1852-1859) of his overland journey from Broad Ripple, Indiana (March 18, 1852) to Oregon (August 13, 1852); discusses miles traveled, care of livestock, emigrant recreation, and homesickness. Includes entries (1853-1859) describing settlement of Washington County along Cedar Creek, as well as establishment of a lyceum, gristmill, and furniture factory; complains of bachelorhood woes and school teaching.
